Congratulations to INSECT NET trainee Yanqiu Yang for her success in the Spring 2024 Graduate Exposition at Penn State.

Yang joined INSECT NET in Spring 2024 and has already made strides in developing a stakeholder-inspired project supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Penn State Extension. The project goal is to use camera-based insect traps and AI computer vision to improve detection of the invasive box tree moth, whose distribution is extending southward into Pennsylvania from New York. This monitoring effort may enable early detection of box tree moth immigration to new areas, which could highlight regions for prevention/local eradication efforts.

Yang is advised by Drs. Paul Heinemann (Agicultural and Biological Engineering), Christina Grozinger (Entomology) and Harland Patch (Entomology)
