INSECT NET traineeship flyer

INSECT NET is seeking graduate students to join our NSF-funded graduate training program for the 2025-26 academic year.

Students and faculty on our INSECT NET team are leveraging advances in technology and machine learning to improve biomonitoring efforts. Current trainee research projects are broad in scope, although most involve developing hardware and/or software to characterize, explore and predict changing environmental conditions/insect distributions.
Our traineeships include one year of student stipend/insurance/tuition support and access to unique professional development opportunities including

  • Annual workshops in science communication and project management
  • A paid job shadow/mini-internship experience
  • Travel support to attend an academic conference
  • Coursework that integrates entomology, ecology, robotics, computer science and artificial intelligence
  • Participation in ongoing INSECT NET research activities

Students entering their second year in a PhD program are preferred, though we are flexible and are happy to consider students at all stages of their academic journey. Grad students who are enrolled outside of the College of Engineering/College of Agricultural Sciences should email insectnet@psu.edu prior to submitting an application.
