Avalon Miller

: Avalon Miller is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology, advised by Dr. Cristina Rosa. Her research investigates the molecular and physiological mechanisms of Dutch elm disease (DED) tolerance in the American elm (Ulmus americana). By integrating metabolomics with reflectance spectroscopy and multivariate modeling, Avalon is developing non-destructive remote sensing tools to identify DED-tolerant trees. Her work aims to develop tools that can detect disease-tolerant trees more rapidly, aiding in the generation of genetically diverse and resilient elm populations for breeding programs focused on urban and forest restoration.
